Music.“Vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty to form, harmony, and expression of emotion.” Music has been passed down for years from one generation to the next. Music is shared in many different forms, languages, and genres and has been created by millions of individuals. The language of music has explained stories, started movements, and inspired generations of people. Music is said to be the universal language that unites us all and bonds the connections of the world. If I am going to be honest… I have never been a really big music person. I do not know specific genres, artist, or even song names. I struggle to find new good pop music that is trendy, and it is hard for me to join in on conversations when my friends are talking about new music they enjoy. For years I listened to radio trending pop music to try and stay trendy with my friends. I even went as far as getting into rap and other genres just to be able to impress my friends. Sometimes I would really enjoy the music and it would be interesting to me and other times I would hate it. When I was in middle/high school my mom would always have Christian music on in the car but being “too cool” we turned it off for the “trendy” music. It was not until recently I discovered the purity and beauty of Christian music. When I came home from college this past winter my younger sister who was twelve at the time was dying to show me her new apple music playlist, she had been working so hard to create. She was twelve so I was expecting to find a bunch of radio repeat songs complied in a list. To my surprise she showed me this long thought out list of all Christian music. I was in awe… my younger sister (who is in middle the prime time when girls are mean, bully each other, and just want to fit in to the norm) listens to Christian music. She had been asking me to listen to it with her for a couple days, but I was unsure if I wanted to because I thought it was going to be like slower church music. After her begging, we began to listen to the music together and I realized the true beauty of Christian music.Christian music has taught me a lot of information about the Lord. Reading the bible and listening to Christian music allows you to grasp a greater meaning of the Lords word. It also helps to reiterate stories in the bible and to explain them in a different way. Listening to Christian music has helped me get through these last couple of months and I don’t think they would have been the same with out it. When I am stressed out and anxious, I go on runs to calm down and figure things out. Now instead of going on a run to figure things out on my own I play Christian music. I truly can feel God running with me and telling me everything is going to be okay. The words in the song are so powerful that anyone who listens to them will believe God is real and God is good. Fast forward a couple months and now I get to see the impact Christian music has made on my entire family. Together my family listens to Christian music when we are working on a project around the house, driving to church together, or even just hanging out together. I believe it has truly brought my family closer to one another and brought our families relationship closer to God. If only we all would HAVE realized this ten years ago when we were driving together in my moms car.
