Faith like a child.
A child’s faith is so pure and wholesome. Children are able to see the unseen so clearly. They can whole heartedly believe without seeing.
Do you remember living a life with absolutely no fear? Do you remember enjoying every second of the day? Do you remember when things weren’t going your way asking God to help you solve your problems and knowing with his help everything would be fine?
Do you remember the faith you had as a child?
A faith with no questions and no worries.
A faith so true that it warmed the hearts of others.
The faith of a child is true and inspiring.
As we became adults what changed in us to make us feel a sense of unease when it comes to our faith? Why do we lack the ability to have unfailing trust in Our Lord? Why do we question whether or not every little thing about God is real?
I am not sure about you, but I know for me I wish I could have a faith like a child. I often find myself questioning why things happen in my life, whether or not God is real, and where He is when I feel like things are not going my way. These are the moments that I wish I could stop overthinking life and truly believe and have faith like a child.
The other day I was nannying a 6-year-old girl and we went on a walk. On our walk we passed a very large church and she looked to me and asked, “what is that?”. I explained to her how it was a church where people go and worship, pray, and learn about God. She was mesmerized by the thought of God. She went on to ask me about God and she asked, “is it true that God is really here with us right now and that we can talk to God and feel God.” She then closed her eyes and started to talk to God when her eyes opened, she said, “Oh yes I can feel God, He is here with us right now.” Her face was beaming, and I could see God shinning right through her. How amazing and pure it was to see such a young girl truly believe in God’s presence and wanting to know God. Seeing her smile lead me to think of my younger brother. This week he had to undergo a very serious surgery that could lead to an endless amount of possibilities. Some outcomes good and others unbearable. After my brother found out he had to have surgery there was not a single time that I heard him worry about the outcome or complain about having to get the operation. He let go and let God. My brother might not be a young child anymore, but he will forever be a child of God. He showed the courage it takes to hand your life over to God; he demonstrated the strength God gave him to endure such a dreadful surgery, and he revealed the beauty of our Lord to everyone watching him. My brother did not live in the fear of what was to come but with faith he fought to win his battle. Just like a child does not fear a life without God, my brother did not fear his outcome because he knew God was always with him.
That is how I will strive to live the rest of my life. My brother has reminded me of the amazing relationship God has with his children and shown me the importance and beauty of being one of God’s children. The girl I nanny reminds me each day of Gods love of children and teaches me how to search for God everywhere, lean on him for guidance all the time, and to feel His presence in every moment. God love each and every one of his children. It is important to remember whose children we are and to believe with unconditional love that God is our Father and Savor forever.
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
