Taking Action in Faith
As a young adult, it's hard to devote a specific amount of time each day to God. We are busy people going nonstop, and it's easy to place our relationship with God on hold. It's very common for people to think “well I go to church every weekend” or “I pray whenever I can”. Now, these things by no means are bad, but are they enough? I question this a lot as I find myself falling into slumps of not pushing my faith to new limits and being content at just attending weekend mass. A conclusion that I have come to, after thinking about how I can improve my relationship with God, is taking action in my faith and being more aware. At first this sounds strange, but I've always been told “actions speak louder than words”. Jesus calls us to not just maintain an individual faith life, but to inspire others during our own journey. Of all people, Jesus was the best at gaining followers and friends so we should follow his example. If we are to be like Jesus, then we should also be thinking about taking action to do so. This could be something like inviting a new friend to join you at church, or even just starting a conversation with a friend about faith. By no means is this always the easiest thing to do, but it is important. By doing this, we are sharing and inspiring others to follow Jesus. This is the ultimate gift of praise we could give Him. Another aspect of faith that I realized I commonly overlook is seeing Jesus in other people, places, and things. As individuals we try to find Jesus within ourselves, when a lot of times it is actually right in front of us. For me I've seen it in things such as a hug from my Mom, a supportive text from a friend, or even in a beautiful sunset. God’s presence is constantly surrounding us in all we do. In times of fear, stress, success, sadness, He is there. He is always there, and He wants us to notice Him. By taking action and just being more aware of all the places in life that Jesus can be found, one's relationship with Jesus can greatly improve. The most important relationship for every one of us is our relationship with Jesus Christ. Choosing to believe that He is who He claimed to be—the Son of God and the only way to salvation—and receiving him by faith and prayer. Here is a simple prayer if you have not yet given your life to Jesus and invited him into yours:
Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, that you died on the cross to rescue me from sin and death and to restore me to the Father. I choose now to turn from my sins, my self-centeredness, and every part of my life that does not please you. I choose you. I give myself to you. I receive your forgiveness and ask you to take your rightful place in my life as my Savior and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, and help me to become a person who is truly loving—a person like you. Restore me, Jesus. Live in me. Love through me.
Thank you, God.
In Jesus’ name I pray.
Amen.
