Love Our Neighbor As Ourselves

God created every person differently on purpose. He gave some people more talents than others, just as this past Sunday’s gospel reading harped on. It is not a matter of how many talents we have, but it is instead a matter of what we do with those talents we are given.
The world is divided right now more than it ever was. Instead of finding things in common with our neighbor, we are quick to judge and point out our differences. During this election year, the media is looking to divide everyone and make them pick a side. Our leaders are setting a bad example by attacking each other and spreading hatred. As followers of Christ we must put aside our differences and love our neighbor, knowing that they were made in the image of God.
This is not an easy task to complete. I am a pretty opinionated person, especially when it comes to politics. I struggle at times to not get caught up in the moment and instead look for similarities with others. I’ve learned that it is okay to disagree with someone and peacefully talk about an issue. However, at times it is important to agree to disagree and not let those differences damage your relationship.
God instructs us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Go through life not looking for things to divide you from others, but instead looking for God in every person and realize that our differences are what make us unique. Use your talents wisely and unite people around you to come together and work as one unit on this earth as we listen to God and follow His will.
